Having managed to get module-assistant to compile and install alsa-modules-2.6.17-1-686_1.0.11-3lxtec1+2.6.17-10.00.Custom_i386.deb,
ALSA MIDI playback to the wavetable synth on my SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 model 0220 sound card under kernel 2.6.17-1-686 version 2.6.17-2 works fine without lock-ups.
