I just tested for this bug myself, and my installation does not behave in the manner you reported. I'm still running XFree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1. I've seen other bugs related to the version of XFree86/Xorg being used. Perhaps this is similar. If it is, you might try scanning the upstream bug tracking system for your issue.
