Hi,

With debian trixie weekly USB rescue I was able to properly mount the disk
partitions. One partition had some strange content, luckily the /usr/local
one. So I removed that one and wrote the new partition table with fdisk,
updated the system using the shell in the root partition and now it boots
normally from the hard disk.

So whatever went wrong following debian testing, it works again.
