The prerm fix is needed in any case.

Not sure I'd call it a "special hack" to create the directory you use.

If you haven't already uploaded, I'd recommend you wait until the 
package is either in testing (ideally Sunday morning) or some additional
problem that needs urgent fixing appears, so that your package goes
into trixie.
