This seems like it would require more information about your Wayland setup. When you type M-< to jump to the beginning of the buffer, the mark does get set to the place you jumped from (you can check this with C-x C-x which will swap the mark with your current position). If you use a different movement or keyboard shortcut, we'd need more details about that too; but it seems tangential here. -- If this were a real .signature, it would suck less. Well, maybe not.
