Source: fonts-inter Version: 4.0+ds-2 Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: t...@debian.org
We had talked earlier about possibly packaging the new GNOME default font as a separate binary package from source fonts-inter. For GNOME 48 Beta, GNOME appears to be officially switching to a feature frozen version of Inter which they are naming Adwaita Sans. See the 2 build lines at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/adwaita-fonts/-/blob/main/Makefile They also recommend updating fonts-inter to 4.1. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-meta/-/merge_requests/3032 Mono ==== New this time, they are also switching their recommended mono font to a feature frozen version of Iosevka which they are named Adwaita Mono. Iosevka is not in Debian yet. See https://bugs.debian.org/973995 Naming ====== Therefore, I suggest we use fonts-adwaita-sans and fonts-adwaita-mono as the binary package names. Gitlab Sans ========= As was pointed out on Reddit, it looks like the "Gitlab Sans" font is also Inter with cv05 so I assume it is identical to Adwaita Sans. https://about.gitlab.com/blog/2023/01/17/new-typefaces-in-gitlab/#enhance-the-content https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/frontend/fonts/-/blob/main/Makefile#L84-92 Maybe we could mention that in the package description; It doesn't look like the Debian package gitlab is shipping a copy of this font currently.
