I think I used https://wiki.debian.org/sbuild to set up my sbuild
environment years ago. I'm not sure if it matches "a reduced chroot
with only build-essential packages", but I use sbuild to hopefully
verify that the builders will not have an issue with my newer package
releases.

I tried to build the package again making sure the sbuild environment
was updated, but I can't reproduce the failure to link to libsasl2.
Actually, the link command for libnixutil-tests doesn't include sasl2
when I attempt to build it.

Do you have any suggestions for making a "reduced chroot" so I could
reproduce this FTBFS?

Thanks!
