util-linux recently stopped installing mesg(1).

Does this mean that mesg will not exist at all, or maybe
it is in another package?

In the first case: Are we in time to make "mesg" a no-op
command which emits a warning message for trixie?

Or maybe this would not even make sense? Since base-files
redirects stderr to /dev/null, nobody would ever
see the warning, at least when invoked from base-files.

Could you see to updating bash-files' dot.profile, which AFAICT is
the template for /root/.profile?

Ok, will do.

Will installs that have not changed /root/.profile automatically get
the updated file, or do they need to manually change it?

If they didn't change the default, it will be updated to the new default.
There is already a mechanism in place for that, based on the
file /usr/share/base-files/dot.profile.md5sums.

Thanks.
