This page lists the possible indicators:

NMUs, especially if there has been more than one NMU in a row.
    which is true

Bugs filed against the package do not have answers from the maintainer.
well, it was the case for the single bug

Perfectly true. Its absolutely not urgent.

Four NMUs in a row might be an indication that the maintainer lost
interest.

I said: "I admit I have no personal interest in this package and I do
not use it." I maintain several packages which I'm not using. I'm
perfectly fine if you disagree with the attempt to salvage and I can
easily remove the upload to delayed. My intention was genuinely to lend
a helping hand, and I apologize sincerely if it wasn’t received as such.
Please let me know if it caused any inconvenience, and I’ll be more than
happy to undo the upload.

Kind regards
    Andreas.
