This is the crux, and I do not understand it.  My last build here (in
September) was still against OpenMPI 4.* and it worked

Now we have OpenMPI 5.*, and orted is clearly in /usr/bin/orted but it is not
being found.

The (upstream) autoconf logic is simple:

     if test "$ORTED" = no ; then
         AC_MSG_ERROR(Cannot find orted. Rmpi needs orted to run.)

Why would that fail?  Any idea?  Any other OpenMPI-using packages having issues?
