Hi Jonathan,thanks. Let's see if the fix reduces the database build time to a reasonable duration: if the remaining packages are few, this can definitely solve the issue.
As for apt, I don't think I'll file a bug against it since in daily use its behavior is not a problem: even when installing lots of packages, its database is read only once.
