Package: vim Version: 1:7.0-017+4 Severity: normal 1. Edit a file that is too large to fit in a shell window. 2. Jump to the end of the file with shift-g 3. Press o to append a line. For some reason, vim won't display '-- INSERT --' at the bottom, but it's definitely in insert mode. Move the cursor to a line in the middle of the window and press o and it will display '-- INSERT --'.
