Package: libgphoto2-2 Version: 2.1.6-12 Severity: important
gthumb had been working happily until sometime after 23 May 2006 when some upgrade or other stopped the running of the script that sets the permissions on the file created when my Canon Ixus v camera is plugged in via USB. I have found it difficult to debug since I do not know how to find out what is being done by "udev_run_hotplugd usb" and what is being done by "udev_run_devd usb", and why /etc/hotplug/usb/libgphoto2 is not apparently being run and in any case is not setting the groups of the created files to "camera" so that gthumb can access the camera. Turning on debugging in udev reveals: May 30 13:01:55 localhost kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_ hcd and address 15 May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd[849]: udev_event_run: seq 1715 forked, pid [4788 ], 'add' 'usb', 0 seconds old May 30 13:01:55 localhost kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: wait_for_sysfs: file '/sys/devices/ pci0000:00/0000:00:0a.1/usb2/2-1/bus' appeared after 0 loops May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: pass_env_to_socket: passed 191 byte s to socket '/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event', May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: pass_env_to_socket: passed -1 bytes to socket '/org/kernel/udev/monitor', May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: run_program: 'udev_run_hotplugd usb ' May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: run_program: '/lib/udev/udev_run_ho tplugd' returned with status 0 May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: run_program: 'udev_run_devd usb' May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: run_program: '/lib/udev/udev_run_de vd' returned with status 0 May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd-event[4788]: udev_event_run: seq 1715 finished May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd[849]: udev_done: seq 1715, pid [4788] exit with 0, 0 seconds old May 30 13:01:55 localhost udevd[849]: udev_event_run: seq 1716 forked, pid [4791 ], 'add' 'usb', 0 seconds old Can you suggest how to debug the failure of udev to cause the running of the libgphoto2 script to change the permissions of the /dev/bus/usb and/or /proc/bus/usb file(s) needed by gthumb?
