Could you please consider adding the debugging instructions you gave me in some *up-to-date* explanation to be included with libgphoto2-2?

Sure.

Thanks again for your help.

I have uploaded 2.1.6-13 to http://people.debian.org/~fpeters/libgphoto2/

Installed:

dpkg -i libgphoto*.deb
(Reading database ... 196042 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace libgphoto2-2 2.1.6-12 (using libgphoto2-2_2.1.6-13_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement libgphoto2-2 ...
Preparing to replace libgphoto2-port0 2.1.6-12 (using libgphoto2-port0_2.1.6-13_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement libgphoto2-port0 ...
Setting up libgphoto2-port0 (2.1.6-13) ...

Setting up libgphoto2-2 (2.1.6-13) ...

Would you mind testing it ? It should produce rules like this:

  # udev rules file for libgphoto2
  #
  ACTION!="add", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"
  SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_real"
  SUBSYSTEM=="usb", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_real"
  BUS!="usb", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"

  LABEL="libgphoto2_rules_real"

With this I hope to catch most cases.

Yes,

/dev/bus/usb/002:
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root         80 2006-05-30 22:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root        120 2006-05-31 05:09 ..
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root   189, 128 2006-05-31 05:09 001
crw-rw---- 1 root camera 189, 134 2006-05-30 22:14 007

gthumb 2.6.9 recognised the Canon Ixus v fine.

Thanks;

        Frederic
