This would just be "Espanya". There's no name in particular for the Catalan-speaking regions of Spain. > I have strong objections with that. My proposal doesn't really diverge from that: a combination of language and country. When we say ca_IT, we refer to a combination of Catalan and Italy. When we speak of that combination in a "normal" context, we don't say "the region of Italy where Catalan is spoken". We just name the small town where this happens (l'Alguer). As a matter of fact, many Catalan users (obviously, not including people from Alguer ;)) won't understand what this option is doing here if it just says "Italia". OTOH, if it says "L'Alguer (Italia)", they will remember being taught at school of this small town in western Italy. (and maybe think "Oh, this is so complete. I understand that part of your task as l10n maintainers is to discern actual stuff that is useful to users while splitting the politics appart (correct me if I'm wrong). Of course, politics is always floating around when you deal with locales. But there's nothing implicitly "political" in my proposal. Let's take "Catalunya Nord". This name is widely used here, on TV, on language schoolbooks, etc. Its meaning is only cultural and linguistical, not political. Of course, you can always find any sort of political groups associated with this or that concept; but there's nothing implicit in the name about that. I think something similar happens with fr_CA. When you speak about the region of Canada where French is spoken, I suppose you just say "Qu?bec" ?
