The proposed solution in the previous post works for current Sarge stock kernel 2.6.8-3-686-smp.
I have re-compiled from the source package changing just two options to "y": < CONFIG_IDE=m > CONFIG_IDE=y < CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE=m > CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE=y Current Ubuntu dapper kernels seems to use the same solution. May be it is only an issue when booting from scsi or a problem about the order in which IDE and SATA subsystems are initialized. It may be affecting a lot of ICH5 users looking at the reports in Google. Is it possible to set these two options in kernel config for the next official kernel revision?
