Sorry! Last time I used LaTeX is about 10 years ago, and I remember OpenType fonts weren't a topic back then.
Anyway, I think the relaxation of the package dependencies will cause no harm. After all, Recommends means something like "installed by default, but may get removed later" - which is outside the responsibility of the package maintainer.
