How do you come to the conclusion that there is an incompatibility between auctex and emacs21, when on your system dselect wants to remove *both*? It's only a warning, it says that half of the dependencies in that alternative can be satisfied (texlive-latex-base is only available in experimental at the moment). > REMOVAL is unnessary! Please send us the full list of packages to be updated, and the output of dpkg -l "emacs*" | grep ^ii Furthermore, you could try "apt-get install emacs21", does that help? If not, what's the output?
