Dear Maintainer(s), As you might already know, pygame 2.1.0 is available upstream, and in debian I see 1.9.6 is still being packaged. As pygame contributors, we try to keep pygame backwards fairly compatible, and despite having a major version bump and a minor version bump, pygame 2.1.0 is still *almost* backwards-compatible with pygame 1.9.6 (except a few minor exceptions) pygame 2.1.0 fixes a whole lot of bugs (along with a few nice features), pygame 1.9.6 has really old dependencies, they are have not been maintained by their upstream maintainers for many years now. For instance, the latest SDL2 version has greatly improved wayland support, which SDL1 lacks. There are many more bugs that updated dependencies fix, and updated pygame fixes. I hope you debian maintainers consider shipping the latest pygame version. This is my first debian issue, please do let me know if I did anything wrong while reporting this issue.
