Package: cowsay Version: 3.03+dfsg2-8 Severity: normal Tags: upstream X-Debbugs-Cc: garethpul...@gmail.com,fl...@apjanke.net
Dear Maintainer, Debian includes the package cowsay, but the upstream of the project has been unavailable now for some time, with only an archive.org reference available at https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/cowsay . Looking around identified another repository maintained by apjanke, at https://github.com/cowsay-org/cowsay . This repo appears to be a continuation rather than a "competitive" fork of the original codebase, maintained in the spirit of the original author, with some minor updates such as the inclusion of some debian patches. I request that this repository be considered as the new upstream of the Debian package. I have spoken to apjanke who confirms the above, as well as a willingness to continue in this role, and approval at being nominated as the new upstream - I have included him as a cc in this bug. Thanks for your continued support of Debian and for considering this bug. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing-security APT policy: (500, 'testing-security'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-6-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages cowsay depends on: ii libtext-charwidth-perl 0.04-10+b1 ii perl 5.32.1-4 cowsay recommends no packages.
