The situation is more like B.  There is a patch to port openjdk (zero) to hppa 
that's in development but it
doesn't work yet.  Probably, it needs about two weeks of fulltime work to get 
things working.  That's just
a guess.  Adrian and I were working on it.  Currently, I don't have this amount 
of time available.

Gettext can be built manually.  But the glibc build depends on gettext, so it's 
important to hppa to have it build.
