Because mathjax 3.x is not compatible with 2.x [1], and given the number of packages that currently depend on libjs-mathjax, I think 3.x should be a separate package. So maybe retitle this bug to ITP? I will continue maintaining mathjax 2.x but I would prefer if 3.x is taken by someone who is more familiar with nodejs and typescript ecosystem (my knowledge of both is around zero).
