Hi everybody, just when I was about to hit send for the below message, I decided to do another test: On my office machine (not Debian, but that should not matter), the culprit seems to be anti-aliasing of th PS image. This can be set with command line switch '-gsalpha', X11 resource XDvi.gsAlpha or (interactively) with 'V'. Result: Text is shown when anti-aliasing is disabled. Text is not shown when anti-aliasing is enabled. You can cycle through this by hitting 'V'. My Debian machine is at home, but I suspect it is the same there ...

You are the one who is strange. ;-) Seriously, that some text is not shown in xdvi when PS is combined with text from TeX is absolutely natural for me. It has been like this for ever, well, for as long as I have used TeX. > You are running sarge+backports, too? Xorg or XFree? Yes, sarge with backports. I am still using XFree, though. I recently acquired a very similar machine, though, and plan to put sarge with Xorg, kernel, etc from backports.org onto it. I can do further tests then. BTW, I just tried this file on my machine here in the office: SuSE 9.3 with Xorg 6.8.2, 'G_depth: 24' and 'drawbegin at 236,522', ie, shrink '6': As allways for me, the text is overdrawn by the figure. Can you see any ordering in time when the text and when the figure is drawn? >>> Many more things in xdvi.2.log. There was no attachment here. > > I forgot it, here it is: [...] Hmm, I haven't found anything special in this diff. But then, it is pretty long, so it is easy to overlook something. Most of the diff seems to be related to different shrink factor and you (Frank) having a ~/texmf. Do you have a chroot with x11? It should be possible to get rid of most of the diff that way. cheerio ralf
