Hi, if you suffer from bugs introduced by patches from Debian, I recommend you to just use the original unmodified cdrtools.
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/ But note that your system seems to run an "unfriendly" application (most likely a removable media management daemon) that may have impact on CD/DVD writing as well as with Digital Audio Extraction. It may also help to identify this application, kill it and write a bug report to it's maintainers. An example for a "friendly" removable media management system can be found here: http://cvs.opensolaris.org/source/xref/on/usr/src/cmd/volmgt/ It is "quiet" after more than 3 seconds past the indertion of a new medium. BTW: This is why the minimal grace-time from cdrecord is set to 3 seconds.
