Hi,

if you suffer from bugs introduced by patches from Debian, I recommend you to
just use the original unmodified cdrtools.

But note that your system seems to run an "unfriendly" application (most
likely a removable media management daemon) that may have impact on CD/DVD writing as well as with Digital Audio Extraction.

It may also help to identify this application, kill it and write a bug report
to it's maintainers. An example for a "friendly" removable media management system can be found here:

http://cvs.opensolaris.org/source/xref/on/usr/src/cmd/volmgt/

It is "quiet" after more than 3 seconds past the indertion of a new medium.
BTW: This is why the minimal grace-time from cdrecord is set to 3 seconds.

Jörg,

You seem to be right about it being a Debian (and Ubuntu) issue. I've tried
upstream cdrecord - versions 2.01.01a03, 2.01.01a04 and 2.01.01a07, and am not
getting the problem with dev=ATA -scanbus with any of them.
