Nano supports including nanorc snippets, and by default the package loads snippets /usr/share/nano/*.nanorc Please allow local additions without "contaminating" the conffile, by adding these lines to the default shipped /etc/nanorc: include "/usr/local/share/nano/*.nanorc" include "/etc/nano/*.nanorc" Seems that the ideal place to add those lines is immediately below the current "include" line, to allow overriding upstream shipped snippets and still have the trailing lines in main nanorc override any snippets same as now.
