I think you mean pdf from texi. I tried the following: (cd doc ; TEXINPUTS=".:./..::" texi2pdf octave.texi) and the generated octave.pdf is perfect. If nobody objects, I am going to replace the PS files by the PDF files in the octave2.1-doc package.
