Hi Steven, The reason why the hacked Debian version of Mksquashfs performs badly is because the Debian "maintainer" has applied a so called reproducibility patch that *completely* breaks the parallelism in Mksquashfs.
The offending patch is 0016-remove-frag_deflator_thread.patch https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwjo0r7Bkd7jAhWLi1wKHaFTCTIQFjAAegQIARAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbugs.debian.org%2Fcgi-bin%2Fbugreport.cgi%3Fatt%3D1%3Bbug%3D919207%3Bfilename%3D0016-remove-frag_deflator_thread.patch%3Bmsg%3D24&usg=AOvVaw0EmPWZdGm1kergUjSyBGyP As Squashfs author and maintainer I would not recommend *anyone* to use the squashfs-tools currently packaged by Debian. As for "squashfs-tools-ng", this is a rogue project masquerading as an official new upstream. It is neither official nor a new upstream. As Squashfs author and maintainer I completely disassociate that project with the Squashfs project. I have publicly stated that this project is spreading falsehoods and that it is defamatory to me as the Squashfs author and maintainer. See: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=931965#29 and https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=931965#34 Yours Dr Phillip Lougher Squashfs author and maintainer
