Ok, I'm not really sure what's going on here. Both of these fail:
xscreensaver: failed -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-180-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1 xscreensaver: trying -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-180-*-*-p-*-iso10646-1 And they should not, because look, they're right there: -adobe-helvetica-bold-r-normal--0-0-100-100-p-0-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-bold-r-normal--0-0-100-100-p-0-iso8859-1 -adobe-helvetica-bold-r-normal--25-180-100-100-p-138-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-bold-r-normal--25-180-100-100-p-138-iso8859-1 What do you get with: xlsfonts -fn '-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-180-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1' xlsfonts -fn '-adobe-helvetica-bold-r-normal--0-0-100-100-p-0-iso8859-1' Does text show if you do: xterm -fn '-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-180-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1' (The spacing will be weird because it's expecting fixed with, but "ls" should produce at least some readable words.) Possibly the problem is that your font cache needs to be regenerated with fc-cache? -- Jamie Zawinski https://www.jwz.org/ https://www.dnalounge.com/
