Well, I'd chosen not to fix Bug#282259 upstream in 6.3.X even though it was a regression from an earlier version, because people had opined it was useful (to see when to go off-line for instance) for them, and Franceso's new report just documents my upstream choice was right.
After all, weeding out these messages in logrotate, with perl or grep is no rocket science, and if users get spammed with messages for "set daemon 10", they do not deserve any better -- forcing them to use -v to get these messages on the other hand enables heaps of other messages they may not be interested in. Conclusion: Please remove 02.fix-print-date.dpatch and reopen #282259, we can add a rcfile switch to 6.4.0 later.
