Hi, I bet you that is because AppArmor has recently been enabled by default for unstable/testing.
Please check dmesg and either adjust ejabberdctl's AppArmor profile to your needs or set it to unconfined/complain. The next package upload will set the profile to complain by default. If it's not AppArmor, it's probably one of the settings in the systemd unit file, although I'm not aware of any recent changes in there. Regards, -- .''`.
