Hello Dear Maintainer The same problem occurs with my system since last update.
Can't be sure if this is linked to the package mate-settings-daemon. Or may the package mate-control-center be in cause ?
After update and reboot, my desktop wallpaper got stuck to the lightdm wallpaper instead of the usual one.
Can't change it, nor in the appearance parameters, neither by opening an image file and trying to define it as wallpaper.
