thanks for explaining this more. I have forwarded this upstream to find out upstream's opinion about this kind of configurability. I won't be bringing this flexibility (back?) to strech though, it's too late in the release cycle. I am not sure whether atop has offered this flexibility in the past in the first place. I will think about a NEWS entry, but most probably users will need to find out about this issue in the BTS.
