For anyone interested: I started working on meson/ninja support at https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/debhelper/debhelper.git/log/?h=biebl/meson
It's based on the autoconf/makefile class. I tested it with a a few packages like gnome-twitch and it more or less seems to do the right thing. I don't consider it ready yet though. Feedback and testing welcome. Atm it uses ninja's default setup for -j, which is derived from the number of cores. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
