I can reproduce the problem with sudo, but not when running as root. Plus, for me it actually doesn't block indefinitely. It just takes a bit longer, but at some point it will actually list the devices: glaubitz@ikarus:~$ sudo fsck /dev/sda /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda4 /dev/sda5 /dev/sda6 /dev/sda7 glaubitz@ikarus:~$ sudo fsck /dev/sda It takes around 5-10 seconds here.
