Package: xkb-data Version: 2.19-1 All Chromebooks since the beginning have a standard keyboard layout that uses media keys by default instead of function keys. The keys are not even labeled as function keys, but only as media keys. With some Chromebooks, this is working fine without extra configuration. For example, with the Toshiba Chromebook CB35. I just installed stretch using the RC2 installer image, and the media keys are outputting function key symbols. I did a "Full ROM" update of coreboot, and this is running only Debian.
Here is a good post that shows pictures of the layout, as well as a way to correct the mapping: http://www.fascinatingcaptain.com/howto/remap-keyboard-keys-for-ubuntu/ GalliumOS has been fixing lots of things for Chromebooks, it would be awesome to have that stuff upstreamed: It would be great if this happened out of box! I'm happy to provide extra info as needed, just ask.
