This is obviously a security issue, so raising severity to serious. Upstream issue #103[1] seems very similar to the description of this bug, and is reportedly fixed with upstream PR #110. Moreover, it looks like the first half of that PR was also included into the very recent release 1.16.1, but unfortunately not the other half.
