We could implement this idea downstream in nautilus-desktop, as this wouldn't be too hard. On the other hand, to be really useful, it would need a proper UI, i.e. at least integration into gnome-tweak-tool. This means translations etc., a path I don't want to follow, tbh unless it has support from upstream.
