Failures only start after reboot! Upgrading to 1.6.10-3 appears to work, even after all old thunar instances are closed/killed and restarted to ensure fresh binaries are in use. After a reboot, freeze on mounting happens every time with 1.6.10-3.
(I was testing again to see if recent udev and gvfs changes had any effect; they did not.)
