Thinking more about it, if we restore the /etc/resolv.conf file on stop, then there doesn't remain a good reason why NM uses a symlink in the first place and I guess upstream did have a reason why it used a distinct file in /var/run and a symlink. I guess at this point it's best to involve upstream and we should file this as an upstream bug report.
