This does not seem ideal, either. Well, the /etc/resolv.conf interface is simply an aweful one. We have multiple programs writing to the file. Restoring the old /etc/resolv.conf is not necessarily the best idea, as it might contain stale data. So the problem seems to be, that programs behave different if /etc/resolv.conf is a symlink and not a file. Couldn't wicd be changed to takeover the symlink? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
