which is odd, because mate-terminal has this in the control file:

   libmate-desktop-dev (>= 1.14)

but the shlibs file does not ensure that the resulting dependency
(via dpkg-shlibdsp) is also >= 1.14 on libmate-desktop-2-17.


I would call this the real underlying bug in this little mess, not Britney.

One issue actually is that .symbols did not really change that much for all *mate* packages. Only the compiled against GTK version changed.

Unfortunately, this won't occur again until the GTK3 -> GTK4 switch over. But we should indeed prepare for that.
