Dear Tormod,

I read your email and my understanding is that only the unstable version
5.34 and beyond will be fixed? What about the stable version 5.30? Can you
also fix that?

I would be very disappointed if the stable version is not fixed. I work a
lot with people with low computer skills, most of which are also in the
lower income brackets. Many depend on Debian stable on a day by day basis. I
spent an innumerable amount of hours educating people about stable branches,
and how to update via a conservative apt-get update. Those people will stay
with their computers for a large number of years, and they don't have a clue
about backports.

I think it would be a very bad decision to leave people being pestered for
years by this rude, disruptive and disingenuous warning. Yes, it is
disingenuous, because it says "If this is the latest version that your
distro ships, then your distro is doing you a disservice." - this statement
is false, because using old versions (stable branches) have pros and cons,
and may be ideal to many people and situations (I almost always use and
recommend stable, and in 2013 NASA chose stable of Debian 6 instead of
stable Debian 7 for the ISS astronaut's laptops, tell me about using older
versions for stability). Also, this warning unjustly denigrates Debian and
will confuse and scare many.

I thus ask you to reconsider and fix this issue on the stable version as
well. It could be done as a security fix, perhaps? The rationale is that the
warning is disingenuous and contains inaccurate information (i.e.: that
using older versions is a disservice). Please don't let this thing hanging
out there, I know that many people will have to deal with this annoyance for
years, and that really undermines the trust and goodwill that this people
have on Debian (and Linux in general).

I hope you will reconsider, in case there are no plans to fix stable.

Respectfully,
Jamil Said

PS: Santiago, gracias amigo! I will look into the info you provided me.
