FWIW, #793263 was fixed by a binNMU (so I'm belatedly marking it as done), and #798277, while a very reasonable suggestion, doesn't affect users, just allows for quicker builds. Meanwhile, I forgot I'd meant to see if there's another workaround for #792510.
