I have submitted an improvement to the error message for review upstream today. Unfortunately, I forgot to create the equivalent bug at Launchpad, so I am setting the forward URL to the actual merge request I've made. Hopefully it will be accepted soon, and will show up in the next release. BTW, if you have comments about the proposed patch you're totally welcome to post comments there, or even here (if you don't have a Launchpad account).
