Hans and others,

I believe that both the alsa & oss channels drivers are really for
demonstration purposes and are are not really meant for use as end point in a
production environment. This is also supported in that they don't do things
such as release the sound card when not required.

Asterisk in a production environment should be running with these channels
unloaded.

If you want to run the end point on the same machine then you are better off
with the dedicated end point application, either SIP, H323, iax or hardware.

There are also issues with port reservation, such as h323 server and end point
wanting port 1720. And of course the limited state of 323 support. SIP does
work well though.
