Thanks for the report, I'll investigate. It doesn't really surprise me that `font-lock-fontify-buffer' removes fontification from special buffers, in Emacs 22.1 calling `font-lock-mode' has effect on all buffers (font-lock and special). Practically speaking, when does the problem occur?
