The problem is not really in nemo but rather in file-roller, which depends on nautilus-data, which pulls in a lot of gnome. The right approach is to avoid that, and I've filed a bug at: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=788690 The maintainer has agreed to remove the nautilus-data dependency as it's not needed.
