I agree with you: it's a waste of time for everyone. I think it would be easy to transform the email field like: john-...@provider.tld -> john-doe AT provider DOT tld It will not block everyone to understand the right email address and the archive will not be found when searching the e-mail into a search engine. The RedHat archive does something equivalent.
