Dear Maintainer,
I have done the following at my end :-
If there is no activity for more than 5 minutes make sure the screen is locked.
Now when the screen is locked, it needs a password to authenticate.
Now even if I type the credentials the asteriks that should appear
(*******************) don't appear and authentication fails.
There are two workarounds I'm using to get around this issue.
a. Open VLC and keep some media to play and pause it. This makes mate
feel some work is going on and the screensaver doesn't come on. The
downside is power is not saved.
b. Open a virtual terminal (VT2) login and have $sudo /etc/init.d/gdm3
restart. This has the downside of breaking a session midway without
closing down all the different sessions/applications cleanly.
Looking forward to a solution.
